Ruta de Los volcanoes Hiking in La Palma, Canary Islands

Deseada volcano – halfway point of the trail

The demanding but breathtaking Ruta de Los Volcanes is a 19-kilometer hiking trail that winds and twists through the ever-changing volcanic scenery, snaking south along the ridge that crosses the center of the volcanic area and towards Fuencaliente, with views of both sides. What a magnificent view. This path is part of the long-distance GR131 hiking trail in La Palma. This 6 to 7-hour trek is a difficult task, preferably done on a cloudy day, because there is not much shadow or freshwater along the way. The entrance is Refugio del Pilar on the LP-301 highway, a vast park with a beautiful picnic area. The walk ends in Fuencaliente, where you may need to arrange transportation to your home.

Our recommendation is to split this hike into two trips, this will conveniently save you the one-way taxi ride back to the starting point of the trail which could cost well over 50 Euros.
